The Commissioner for Customs Col Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd), is hot as Chief of Staff, Finance Minister are on his heels, kicking against his reappointment.

Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare is allegedly opposing the reappointment of the Commissioner at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) over some flimsy excuse.

The same is the case of the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta.

Colonel Damoah, has been on contract at the GRA and he is due for retirement next month.

Months ago, there were reports that powers that be wanted him out.

The retired soldier has been seeking to stay on as the President makes new appointments for his second and last term.

But there is stiff opposition by Mrs. Osei-Opare and Mr Ofori Atta, who want him out to pave way for a different person.

Details are sketchy but DAYBREAK is gathering the opposition to reappointment of the current Commissioner for customs, is as a result of his failure to for instance grease the palm of the Chief of Staff.

Mrs Osei-Opare is alleged to have said that, she has not benefitted from Col. Damoah since he was made the Commissioner for Customs.

As a result, he is not finding favour with the powerful member of government at the presidency.

On the part of the Minister for Finance, he has out rightly rejected the Commissioner, who is often credited and said to have brought innovations and changes to Customs.

The Minister is alleged to have said he cannot work with him and has already forwarded a different name, one Seidu Iddrisu Iddrisah, to the Council of State for confirmation.

Mr Ofori Atta is said to be interested in someone that is willing to play ball with him; someone that will be at his beck and call.

From sources, he wants someone he can control and manipulate through and through but he found out the retired military man is not that kind of person.

The Minister, who has the GRA as one of the main institutions raking in money for the Ministry for national budget, has assured his choice of Commissioner, he is definitely backing him to get the appointment.

What is left, is to get the endorsement of the governing New Patriotic Party national executives on his side.

Alhaji Seidu Iddrisu Iddrisah, has been directed to talk to the national chairman Freddie Blay, to his side to get the nod.

So, what is left for him, is to get the backing of Mr Blay and the rest of the task would be performed by the Minister.
