Interesting details are emerging about one of the spy chiefs who hold dual citizenship, enjoying benefits from both Ghana and the United Kingdom (UK) contrary to the law.

The security chief, whose name would be hidden in the meantime is said to have attended the University of Ghana, Legon for his first degree in 2006.

But he later left the shores of Ghana to the UK where he started university education all over again.

DAYBREAK sources have indicated that the alleged dual citizen holder took that decision not only to better himself for job opportunities but to also have a Student Identification Card (ID card), to hasten his quest to acquire UK citizenship.

Having stayed in the UK for some time and enjoying the benefits of being a British citizen, the spy head is back now heading his current position without renouncing it.

Some say holding such a sensitive position and holding double allegiance to two countries is dangerous and unlawful.

This is so because Article 8 (2) of the 1992 Constitution states “Without prejudice to article 94 (2) (a) of the Constitution, no citizen of Ghana shall qualify to be appointed as holder of any office specified in this clause if he holds the citizenship of any other country in addition to his citizenship of Ghana-Ambassador or high commissioner, secretary to the Cabinet, Chief of Defence Staff of any service chief; Inspector General of Police; Commissioner, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service; Director of Immigration Service; and any office specified by an Act of Parliament”.

While a security officer, he reportedly frequents the UK every two weeks.

Before being appointed, he had emerged in the early years of the Akufo-Addo government to level several accusations against the erstwhile John Mahama government.

Not long after announcing his presence, he was appointed.
