…Over Ammishaddai Contract Extension

President Nana Akufo-Addo is considering the extension of the contract for Mr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Mr Owusu-Amoah who currently has no working contact turned 60 on 10 October 2021.

Although the GRA Boss must be on pension, he is still at post to the chagrin of the staff.

Julie Essiam, Commissioner of Support Service Division also turned 60 in July this year.

But DAYBREAK deep-throat sources say Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has written to the president for the extension of the contract of Mr Owusu-Amoah.

The letter which has been sent to the Presidency is awaiting the approval of the president.

It is unclear if the President will grant the request of the Finance Minister.

If the request is granted, that will be a breach of the Ministry’s directive against the extension of contracts.

The Finance Ministry has in a statement stated that it had with immediate effect stopped financial clearance for Post-Retirement contracts for retiring officers.

The statement signed by Deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Osei Asare said the government has, with immediate effect, suspended the granting of approval for Post-Retirement Contract Appointment.

According to the Ministry, such a request can only be granted in cases where the skills of the retiring officer are in short supply and unavoidably needed.

Workers of the GRA have been left wondering if the competence of Mr Owusu-Amoah is indeed “in short supply and unavoidably needed”, the reason for Mr Ofori-Atta’s haste for a contract extension for Mr Owusu-Amoah.
