…Assaults President’s Niece, Detains TDC Boss for 2 hours

Details are emerging on how the Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, is causing a lot of disaffection and attracting flak for the security services outfit in his arbitrary use of rogue elements in the National Signals Bureau (formerly Bureau of National Communications) to carry out arbitrary arrests and assaults on individuals instead of collaborating with the Ghana Police Service, in particular, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Strangely and interestingly, these hoodlums can arrest without warrants and violently assault citizens without recourse to any proper investigation.

These hoodlums, DAYBREAK gathered, are used by Albert Kan Dapaah to carry out covert operations against some party activists and are allowed to bypass the National Security apparatus and carry out illegal operations which undermine the security and stability of the state.

These hoodlums are led by Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu, a security operative who resigned from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), now National Intelligence Bureau, in 2016, but was brought back in 2017, after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo took office.

Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu was suspended in November 2020 for beating up a soldier from Michel Camp which got the Ghana Armed Forces so angry that, according to sources, the NPP lost votes in certain battalions in the army.

According to DAYBREAK sources, it was these same guys that raided the home of a Deputy Auditor-General on the instructions of Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Ababio Serebour, the Chief Director at the Ministry of National Security in December that got the National Security Minister calling the victim and pleading with him not to make it public.

As if that was not enough, these thugs from the National Signals Bureau were used also to arrest and assault Alice Ofori Atta, a niece of the President and the Chief Executive of Tema Development Corporation (TDC) last month.

Even when she displayed her identity card, they told her they did not care. She was detained for up to 2 hours before released for committing no crime.

The assault on Alice Ofori-Atta as usual was led by Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu and other members of the National Signals Bureau, including Kwabena Adu Boahen and one Nkansah.

According to DAYBREAK sources, President Akufo-Addo explicitly told Kan Dapaah to sack Gerard Nana Osei-Tutu and introduce reforms at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) but he was yet to comply.
