….Ghana’s Security In Limbo
Ghana’s security continues to hang in the balance as details emerge over how two top security Capos failed to attend the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) Meetings.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo -Dampare and the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah have been constantly absent in the Committee’s meetings on Tuesdays.
The Committee, supposed to have been a platform for sharing information on Intelligence and other related matters has constantly lacked the briefings and reports of these Security Chiefs.
The IGP for instance is said to have always given flimsy excuses to justify his absence from the meeting.
Again, sources insist that Dr Akuffo-Dampare always asked his Deputy to attend the JIC meeting when he was the Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service.
Sources further say the matter is degenerating into a national security issue even as the December 7 general elections draw near with its attendant security challenges.
The composition of the committee includes Directors of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Signals, the Chief Fire Officer, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigrations Service, the Customs Commissioner among others.
