Sylvester Mensah: Am Not Corrupt

The former head of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Sylvester Mensah, has stated that he is one of the few people in the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have a clean bill of health, when it comes to corruption.

Speaking as a special guest of honour in Virginia of the NDC USA branch, Sylvester Mensah said “I am one of the very few people within the party and, perhaps, in government who has gone through the scrutiny of our lead investigative body and has come out unscratched.

Continuing, he said “what it means is that there is a reputation that been polished and is telling the whole world that there is a gentleman who has been diligent and who has handled public office with dignity and so today I can say that I am of the few with a clean bill of health as far as our consistency to our core values as a party is concerned.”

“I must also say that there a few calls that I had from a couple of people in the US and when they heard I was coming they wanted to understand what really happened when I was Chief Executive of the Health Insurance Authority and the public investigations that was carried out…

As a matter of fact, after the 2015 early 2016 speculations about who becomes the running-mate and a host of others, of cost it appeared that a number of conspiracy theories came up that oh Sylvester Mensah is getting too popular…there is the need to clip his wings, there is need to flatten him and all kinds of conspiracy theories but let me say that as far as I’m concerned it was legitimate investigations

Government has the right…it is within the remit of government to undertake investigations and of course, perhaps there has been some whistle blower somewhere who thought that there was something wrong somewhere and government took it up to investigate…

I think that it was in the right direction…. investigations were conducted…it was s very very public. What it is important is that the investigations ended and it was declared that there has been no adverse finding

It came with a lot of pain, a lot of difficulties but I must say that I am very happy today that am one of the very few people within the party and perhaps in government who has gone through the scrutiny of our lead investigative body and has come out unscratched.

What it means is that there is a reputation that been polished and is telling the whole world that there is a gentleman who has been diligent and who has handled public office with dignity and so today I can say that I am of the few with a clean bail of health as far as our consistency to our core values as a party is concerned”.
